Employee 041
Records
Good at following procedure.
Beginning to ask why.
A small act of disobedience.
A point-and-click adventure about memory,
office life, and thinking for yourself.
Status: Episodes 1–2 local review builds · In development
Please follow procedure.
You are Employee 041. You review records.
You follow procedure.
Then something in a routine file feels familiar.
The System would like you to finish your work.
You would like another look.
An ordinary shift becomes a small mystery about the things that make a life your own, a river border nobody crosses, and a company that runs half the world.
LOOK / TALK / TAKE / USE
Look around. Read the small print.
There’s usually a person behind the procedure.
Inspect objects. Read a notice. Take another look at something ordinary. The details are there for a reason.
Clues come from exploring, not guessing a magic sentence.
Choose authored replies, or use your own words when optional live conversation is enabled. Your colleagues have their own reasons to be careful.
Authored choices keep the game playable without a conversation provider. Episode 2 puzzle decisions use explicit controls.
Collect objects, connect clues and use the evidence you find. Understanding a rule can be more useful than breaking it.
The world and its puzzles stay authored. Saying you have something is not the same as finding it.
Not just employee numbers.
Some follow the rules.
Some know where the footnotes are.

Disk custodian
Would very much like this
not to be his fault.

Records coordinator
Knows the rules.
Including the small print.

Human reviewer
Approves a great many things.
May need to read one.

Employee 040
Looking forward to letting
someone else handle everything.

01–04 / THE SYSTEM
The institutional narrator speaks in calm summaries. Pay attention to what the summary leaves out.
It starts with one record.
A routine report. An unusual source. A reason to look closer.
Playable review build
Complete authored route
A colleague needs you to read the small print.
Playable review build
Authored continuation
From the other side of the desk.
An independent adventure by Patrick Neubauer.
Built around authored puzzles, people with limited knowledge,
and the difference between following a rule and understanding it.
FOR THE TECHNICALLY CURIOUS
Inside the React scenes, Python rules, bounded conversation graphs and SQLite save system. Follow a turn from player input to a committed result.
Go behind the scenesPeople have reasons for saying no. Discovering those reasons, finding evidence and explaining your approach can make conversation part of solving a puzzle. Optional live replies add flexibility; game rules decide what can change.
The rooms, clues, major story beats and endings are authored. The narrator is authored too. The mystery does not change its answer because a model invents another one.
END OF SUMMARY.
